Palm oil?

Most African foods makes use of palm oil in preparing their soup or stew and even frying. It is considered a necessity in almost every Kitchen.
Palm oil and palm kernel oil are high in calories and saturated fat. One table-spoon of palm oil has 120 calories. So you can imagine that when cooking especially making soup. Palm oil contain saturated fat of 6.7g, polyunsaturated fat 1.3g and monounsaturated fat 5g. All making up 13.6g. Due to the high fat and calories content in palm oil, avoid using Palm Oil when not necessary maybe frying and the likes, and if you must, use only a small quantity. Remember, for any meal you prepare to eat, just by adding one tablespoon of palm oil, you have added 120 calories already.
So watch out on this. Likewise look out for the list of ingredient when you buy branded product such as plantain chips and the likes as most makers use palm oil.
Great advise for people trying to lose weight with African food or want to live a healthy lifestyle with African diet is to cut their consumption of palm oil but rather make use of extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil when cooking as it has been scientifically proven to burn fat. Olive oil seems to be readily more available in our market than coconut oil.
So, enjoy cooking and eating healthy with low-fat oil.
