Hi people
Have you missed me like i have you? I've been MIA, i apologize, i took some well needed time off last weekend to attend the Encounter women's retreat organized by Pastor Jumoke Adeyemi , of global harvest church. I almost missed it, i have a lot of financial commitments going on but a friend, supported by my dearest husband convinced me that what is not yet a harvest is still a seed, so i mustered faith and registered, in fact i registered just a day to the retreat and had to pay extra for late registration but i must say it was totally worth it. I believe my testimonies will abound soon.
It took place at green legacy resort, Abeokuta, incidentally i was born and grew up in Abeokuta but left almost 15 years ago!
We got there on Friday, 6th March, registered, rested and had a love feast.
Then came a time of worship after which our first speaker, Pastor Mrs Ibukun Awosika, the chairman of Chair center group told us of her humble beginning, starting out wanting to be an architect, then a chartered accountant because she wanted to work in a bank, then served at an accounting firm and ended up hating accounting, got a low paying job at a furniture making company owned by our northern african brothers and had her Eureka moment there.
She started her business by renting equipment and working with contract staff at the age of 26 and at 28, when she got married, she already had 28 staff of her own. She now chairs and sits on several boards, is a mother, wife and an ordained pastor at the fountain of life church.
Something she said that stuck with me is that life is a journey, and there is no route of your life that God is not aware of or cannot make use of, also that we should seek to follow God's leading in what we do so that we can always hold on to him to show us the good in every situation we are going through.
AfteAfter that came the turn of Pastor Jumoke, the convener, she talked about aspiring for greatness as women in all our endeavors, breaking out of the cultural limitations life places on us and being the best at whatever we do.
Then dinner.
Later that night we had a practical discussion session. We were divided into groups and talked about several topics relating to women, singles and marriage and our relationships with each other especially in the church setting. some of those issues were pretty strange to me though but hey, to each her own, God for us all!
Day 2 started at 6am with a prayer walk, after which we had 1 hour of aerobics at the gym, some time off to freshen up, breakfast, then we took group pictures.
After that we had several prayer sessions, for our families, ourselves, our nation... And the Rev Femi Oduwole had seperate sessions for single and married women.
And then came lunch and afterwards, ME time. Some folks went off to the spa for sauna steam bath, some went straight to bed while some others. me inclusive, went on an adventure touring the resort. we went through the bamboo groove, to the pavilion, where Former president Obasanjo (did i mention he owns green legacy resort?) showcases among others, his first car, a model warship, an helicopter, the car he was arrested in during the Abacha regime... We also saw the yet to be completed presidential library, climbed the rock of inspiration from where we could see a large percentage of the city and "almost" went on a boat ride on the lake. Not sure anyone went to the swimming pool though.
We worshiped and prayed some more, in fact, a lot more, then had "help a sister out session"
And we were off to our rooms at about 12:45am on sunday (so much for #myhabitin21days lol)
Our last prayer session was 6am on sunday.
then breakfast, then goodbyes!
I had a nice time.
